Unexpected vet visit today!

I came home last night after work to find a huge amount of vomit in our carpeted hallway.  After I let the dogs out to go potty, Hunter didn’t want to come back into the house.  I knew something was up, so I sniffed around the living room and nothing… then I sniffed in the hallway and there it was.  Green (due to the addition of veggies to his food) and full of food chunks, one treat, and lots of slime.  Ewww!  Must have been his breakfast, poor thing.

I can usually tolerate cleaning up pet messes pretty well, but vomit when a dog is on a raw diet is really disgusting!  I was gagging.  It took me almost half an hour to return our carpet to the correct color and get it smelling good again.  Hunter also had diarrhea yesterday and into today.

So… we took Hunter and his monkeybutt sister, Hailey, into the vet this morning first thing!  Antibiotics for Hunter for sure, and no more veggies until his system gets under control; it could have been the veggies and possibly the raw diet that was thawed in the fridge for a few too many days (maybe 5 days).  Hailey, poor thing, has a bad ear infection which caused her to scratch all of the hair off the left side of her cheek in a nice 3” by 1″ patch!  (She gave us no indication that her ears were bothering her… we just thought it was a bug bite that she was itching)  So she’s on meds too!

Hoping they both will be happy and healthy in about a week, especially since Hunter’s 4th chemotherapy appointment is scheduled for next Thursday the 16th.  I guess we just have to take the good days with the bad!

Oh Hunter what happened? And there is nothing worse than a dog who is ashamed of having been sick — that’s heart breaking.
I would guess it was the food. And today I was just thinking about raw for Harley hoping that would help take off a few pounds.
We had an appt. at WVRC today and when we came in there was a chocolate lab and I immediately checked him out but a Moneybutt!
So do you withhold all food for Hunter or just give him something bland for a day or so?
He’s got a good week to recoup so hopefully just too much fiber.
    Have a nice quiet weekend.

Poor Harley. That doesn’t seem like much fun.
Magnum was always on a mix of dry and raw food. I don’t remember her vomit stinking at all. Maybe the raw food was a bit off.
Hopefully Harley will be back to normal for his next chemo.

Thanks everyone. Hunter and Hailey are feeling much better today. Hunter’s symptoms have subsided and I think he’s on the upswing now.
